Our Story

Hi, we're Butch and Renee Rouwhorst, owners of Ryke's. We are committed to exploring, preparing and sharing good food with everyone we meet. We promise excellent customer service, creativity in everything we make and quality ingredients and products.

Butch is originally from Grand Haven, Michigan. He studied French and International cuisine at the Washburn Institute of Culinary Arts in Chicago. Butch brings expertise from his former training along with twenty years of hotel, restaurant and corporate catering to each event.

Renee grew up in the Muskegon area and has a background in Education. She has also worked as a business consultant and trainer for “Not So Basic Training” in Spring Lake. Renee manages the daily operations of the bakery and loves working in the cake business.

We have a clear vision for Ryke's. We are bringing back the traditions of the bakery and the quality that has made Ryke's a household name in Muskegon for over 70 years. To bring that tradition alive today we have created a renovated industrial space that is warm, inviting and unique to Western Michigan. The food and the flavors add to that uniqueness and finally, the people, our family of 30 employees, put the icing on the cake helping us to be "More than just a bakery."
